An early morning chase involving police from Granite City and Madison County, Illinois spilled into St. Louis, resulting in a collision and shots fired, authorities said. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) reported that the incident occurred approximately at 2:30 a.m. today, near North Broadway & Calvary Avenue.
The suspect, pursued by law enforcement from the neighboring Illinois communities, ultimately crashed into the officers' vehicles in St. Louis. According to the SLMPD, the encounter escalated when the suspect's vehicle "intentionally struck" the police cars, leading a Granite City Police officer to discharge his weapon at the suspect vehicle. Despite this, the suspect escaped unscathed, and no officers sustained injuries during the altercation. The suspect has been identified as a Hispanic Male with a goatee, dressed in all black, and driving a white pickup truck.
Following the incident, the SLMPD's Force Investigation Unit was engaged to assess the situation. Given that the event did not involve city personnel and that no injuries had been reported among the suspect or the officers, the investigation has since been reassigned. The 6th District Detective Bureau of St. Louis is now handling the ongoing investigation, underlining the inter-agency cooperation in the wake of a high-stake pursuit that raises questions about the use of force and public safety amid active crime containment efforts.
